Peter needs to determine the extent and nature of bullying and appropriately deal with William and Melissa so that the negative behavior stops. In order to ensure a healthy and positive work environment for all employees, Peter needs to solve this issue immediately.

Facts

-John Chanley has done good job for 5 years.

-Melissa and William bully John.

-The supervisor, Peter Simpson noticed the bullying.

Assumptions

-John might be going to quit his job if the bullying is continued longer.

-Peter might be talking to Melissa and William.

-John might sue Melissa and William if he know about the email sent to Peter.

Solutions

  1. Peter will talk with Melissa and William to stop bullying.                          Advantage:Peter might be able to solve the bullying without noticed by John.                                                                                                                               Disadvantage:Peter can’t hear John’s opinion.
  2. Peter will hold a meeting with Melissa, William, and John.                             Advantage:Peter can hear both side’s opinions.                                          Disadvantage:The trouble looks bigger and John might feel ashamed.

Recommendation

Solution 2 would be better for solving the bullying because of these following reasons. First, because these three people, Melissa, William, and John can have an opportunity to talk togather, they might say what they don’t like about each other, and they can repair ther relationship. Second, by holding a meeting with Peter, John can feel secure to complain about the bullying. Finally, this is the fastest and the most simple way to improve the situation.

Action Steps

  1. Talk to John about the bullying and ask if he wants to have an meeting with Melissa and William. ( a day)
  2. Talk to Melissa and William about the email Peter received and tell them they will have a meeting with John. ( a day)
  3. Find a meeting room which is not seen by other employees.( by the meeting)
  4. Decide what kind of punishment Peter will give to Melissa to William when they repeat bullying in the future.( by the meeting)
  5. Make sure if there are any other troubles between employees like this case. (few days)

Frank Mirror

Solution1:Talk with Frank and tell how employees feel about his way of managing. Also, ask him to change the way.

advantage: They don’t need to find new director.

disadvantage: Frank might not listen to them because he has a great background.

Solution2: The employees carry on boycott.

advantage: Frank will have no other way other than change his habits.

disadvantage: All employees need to have the same thinking.

Recommendation: Solution2

I think 2 will be better because of following reasons. First, because it will affect on their job, Frank will have no other ways other than change his way of managing. Second, because the boycott is going to conducted by all employees, Frank might know that how strong their will is.
